Data received from NASA's MESSENGER Mercury probe has delivered some

Data received from NASA's MESSENGER Mercury probe has delivered some
surprises for scientists studying the solar system's innermost planet.

MESSENGER (MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry and
Ranging) made its first flyby of Mercury earlier this month, sending
back images of previously unseen features including huge cliffs and
"The Spider" - a formation of more than 100 narrow troughs radiating
from a central region.

The craft has also revealed that the Caloris basin - a massive impact
crater - is around 960 miles (1540km) in diameter, rather than the 800
miles (1290km) estimated by the Mariner 10 mission in the mid 1970s.

"This flyby allowed us to see a part of the planet never before viewed
by spacecraft, and our little craft has returned a gold mine of
exciting data," said Sean Solomon, MESSENGER's principal investigator,
Carnegie Institution of Washington.

Instruments on the probe have provided new information about Mercury's
magnetic field and surface composition.

MESSENGER will make two more flybys of Mercury before it settles into
orbit in 2011.

I can not believe it. It is UNBELIEVABLE. Bogus Degrees and the worst is that they cliam and they are proud of being BOGUS

"A Rose Is A Rose"   Bogus Degree. Bogus Professors. Bogus Publications. Bogus Examinations by email.
Bogus Conference. Yes, you have heard well: Bogus Conference, Bogus Conference, Bogus Conference

Bogus Journal. Ouaou!!!!! ==> Bogus Professors and Bogus Diplomas ===> Bogus University Degree

DO NOT BELIEVE IT? AM I CRAZY?

See the following email and you will believe :   They ask money to sell you a bogus conference publication, a bogus CV, a bogus university Ph.D. !!!!!

See the email of these bogus academicians. Be aware of BOGUS PROFESSORS. Alert......
******************************************************************************

Let's get real...whether you pay $59.95 with us, or $900 with them for a novelty degree, you'll get basically the same thing: a piece of parchment paper with some words usually set in degree-looking typeface, and an embossed gold foil seal or some type of emblem (some businesses charge "extra" for an emblem/embossed foil seal... We Don't!)

Our bogus (novelty) degrees look official and "real" in every sense of the word. When framed and hanging on your wall, your bogus degree WILL fool people! Your bogus degree DOES look cool! Your bogus degree IS fun and entertaining! Again, that's what our customers tell us.

In addition, the basic format/layout of a degree (genuine or fake) is essentially the same: School name (at top), some wording, the graduate's name/type of degree/field of study (in middle), some more wording, then some scribbled signatures (at bottom). Frequently, there's an emblem/seal somewhere on the document. A rose is a rose is a rose.

Don't Take Our Word For It

You be the judge and decide! Compare our product (see our product description and view our product samples) with what other sites offer. Compare our price ($59.95) with theirs. After making the comparison and deciding for themselves, our satisfied customers all agree that our high quality novelty "degrees" are an incredible deal!

A volunteer Wikipedia editor who claimed to be a professor with doctorates in religion has resigned, admitting to being a 24-year-old Kentucky college dropout.

Ryan Jordan was involved in writing or editing 16,000 entries in the on-line encyclopedia. Wikipedia told the Louisville, Ky., Courier-Journal that no problems have been found with his work.

Jordan was also profiled in The New Yorker last summer. The magazine ran a correction last week.

Taking a paying job with Wikia Inc. apparently led to Jordan's unveiling. He has given up that post as well as his volunteer work.

Immediately after the news broke, Jordan told The New Yorker that he needed to create an alternate persona to protect himself from people angry over his removal of Wikipedia entries.

His response to a Courier-Journal e-mail was short and to the point -- Please leave me alone.

Title: Methods for benchmarking causal discovery
Speaker: Isabelle Guyon

Formal, widely-accepted definitions of causality have eluded philosophers of science for centuries. However the notion of causality is at the core of the scientific endeavor and also a universally accepted and intuitive notion of everyday life. From an engineering point of view, causality is a very goal-oriented notion, which can simply be defined as finding modes of action on a system, which will result in a desired outcome. For example, taking a drug to cure illness. Thus, even though causality may not find a perfect definition regrouping all the notions it encompasses in philosophy, psychology, history, law, religion, statistics, physics, and engineering, we can devise tasks, which require some notion of causality to perform successful predictions of the consequences of actions. We have stated a project to benchmark causal discovery algorithms called the "Causality Workbench" (http://clopinet.com/causality).  In this presentation, we will explain how we proceed to use real data from a variety of domains to devise tasks and quantitatively evaluate the performance of algorithms.

This project is funded by the NSF Grant N0 ECCS-0725746. As part of the project we are organizing a challenge (Deadline April 30, 2008) to be discussed at a WCCI (June 2008); proceedings published in JMLR. Several prizes will be awarded.
== About the speaker: Isabelle Guyon is a researcher in machine learning and an independent consultant. Prior to starting her consulting practice in 1996, she worked at AT&T Bell Laboratories, where she pioneered applications of neural networks to pen computer interfaces and invented Support Vector Machines (in collaboration with B. Boser and V. Vapnik). Isabelle Guyon holds a Ph.D. degree in Physical Sciences of the University Pierre and Marie Curie of Paris, France. She is vice-president of the Unipen foundation, action editor of the Journal of Machine Learning Research, and competition chair of the IJCNN conference.
